OFFICIAL RULES: WGN Radio Cubs Song Contest
1. TO ENTER: Write an original song about the Chicago Cubs. The lyrics must mention the Cubs and WGN Radio, but may not mention names of individual players, coaches or Cubs management. Songs longer than 4 minutes will be disqualified. Email your individual or group performance of the song as an mp3 file attachment to cubssong@wgnradio.com. You must also include your name, address, daytime phone number, email address, and age in the email. Entries on behalf of a group must provide the required information for each member of the group. Deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. Central time, February 29, 2012. Entries in any format or medium other than mp3, including CD, DVD or magnetic tape, will not be accepted. You cannot enter more than once, either individually or as a member of a group.
2. TO WIN: After all entries are received, WGN Radio will select a group of up to 10 entries for online voting on wgnradio.com. Online voting will take place March 2-16, 2012. Limit one vote per computer IP address per day during the voting period. After online voting ends, WGN will select one winning entry based on voting results and WGN’s judgment of which is the best song based on overall appeal and quality of performance. The winner will be announced on the Jonathon Brandmeier Show on Friday, March 16, 2012. Winner also will be notified by mail, email or phone. If the winner cannot be reached or does not respond to notification within five business days after notice is sent, the prize may be forfeited and awarded to another entrant.
3. THE PRIZE: The individual or group performing the winning song will perform the song on Cubs Opening Day, April 5, 2012, at the Captain Morgan Club at Wrigley Field (location is subject to change) during the Jonathon Brandmeier show (5:30-9 a.m.), and at a WGN VIP party on the same date. The winner(s) also will be invited to record the song in a professional recording studio session, which will be scheduled by WGN to take place on or before Friday, March 30, 2012. All or part of the song will be used by WGN on the air and/or online during the 2012 season in connection with its Cubs programming. The winner also will receive a copy of the professional recording of the song.
4. ELIGIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS: Entrants must be at least 13 years old and U.S. residents at the time of entry. Employees of WGN Radio, the Chicago Cubs, and members of their immediate families are not eligible. The song submitted must be entirely original, and must not incorporate pre-existing material from other works, or any other material in which third parties may own rights. It may not contain profane or disparaging material, or other material deemed unsuitable for broadcast by WGN. Lyrics must be in the English language.
5. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: By entering, each entrant (including any co-writers of lyrics and/or music, and any other performers in the recording) agrees that if selected as winner, he or she grants WGN, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, successors and assigns, and Chicago Baseball Holdings, LLC, the exclusive and perpetual right and license, in perpetuity, to use, broadcast, transmit and distribute the song, including any sound recordings, edited versions or derivative works WGN may choose to make, and to authorize third parties to do the same, for any purpose whatsoever, and in any manner or medium now known or later developed, including, without being limited to, the right to make, sell and distribute copies and downloads. Neither WGN nor any third party is obligated to make any particular use of the song. Each entrant represents and warrants that the song represents his or her own original work (and/or the work of any identified co-writers or fellow performers), and that WGN’s use of the song as provided in these Rules will not violate the rights or require the consent of any third party. If selected as winner, each entrant agrees that he or she and all co-writers and fellow performers will, within five business days after being notified by WGN, execute a Release, License and Indemnity agreement containing these and other customary terms. Failure to execute the form of agreement presented by WGN may result, at WGN’s sole option, in the prize being forfeited and awarded to another entrant, even after the winner has been announced. WGN will not be liable for any loss, injury or damage of any nature in connection with the production or submission of the entrant’s recording, the professional recording session, or the Opening Day performances. By participating, entrants agree WGN has the sole right to determine the winner of the contest and all matters and disputes related to the contest, and that its determinations will be final and binding.
6. OTHER CONDITIONS: WGN reserves the right to change, reschedule or extend contest deadlines, the date the winner is announced, or the dates of the Opening Day performances due to causes beyond its reasonable control, including breaking news coverage and inclement weather. The winner and all fellow performers and crew are responsible for their own transportation to Wrigley Field on Opening Day and the professional recording session, at their own expense. WGN is not responsible for lost, incomplete, damaged, late, or misdirected votes, or for errors in transmission, technical difficulties or inability to transmit votes. Entrants must furnish proof of age upon request. There are no substitute prizes. Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. All federal, state and local laws apply. This contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Information submitted in Internet entries, including entrant's name, address, e-mail address, etc., may be used by WGN Radio for marketing and promotional purposes, and is subject to the station’s online privacy policy.
7. INTERFERENCE WITH CONTEST: If for any reason, the Internet-related portion of this contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, tampering, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause which corrupts or threatens the administration, security or integrity of the contest, WGN reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate or suspend the contest or any portion of the contest. I mean, I guess there's always the ol' "Well, it's not in your contract, see?" but maybe if whoever wins asks nicely for a bone, they'll get one??

Are you really asking folks to write a song that will help promote WGN 720 AM broadcasts of Cubs Games and the prize is "performing live" without any compensation and also handing over the rights of the song to WGN and it's affiliates to license and sell as they see fit in perpituity (forever)?
