Add / View comments | Discussion FAQi was maybe 10 or 11. i lived off clark and hutchinson and ron was involved in an auto accident a block away and all us young guys ran to see him in person. i think we all wanted our gloves or baseballs signed but it wasn't the time. this was in the early 60's so it was early in his career. glad he wasn't hurt. a lasting memory, not too mention all the great cubs baseball games with the greats of that time. thanks ron and the cubs for the memories. russ m
Ron Santo, Dandy Don Meredith, Leslie Neilson......that's 3, that's enough.
"Sail On" you three!
PS....Ron, get Harry Caray off that heavenly bar stool, then put in a good word for the CUBS up there, ok?
My memory of Ron is as a 9 or 10 year old. It was 1960 or 1961 . I was playing little league baseball at Shabbona Park in Chicago . At the end of our season we had a Banquet that Ron spoke at . As he was leaving with his wife , my dad poked me to have Ron sign my baseball. As I rushed up to him with my ball , it was pretty obvious i had no pen. Without any hesitation Mrs. Santo pulled a pen from her purse so Ron could sign my ball. What thrill for me ! I still have that ball . Chicago has lost its biggest fan !
