In 2011-2012, Troy Murray enters his 13th year as a member of the Blackhawks broadcast team and his ninth year as the color analyst for Blackhawk Hockey. He made his debut as the color analyst for Blackhawk Hockey on November 14, 2003, replacing Dale Tallon, who stepped aside to assume the role of assistant general manager before being elevated to general manager.

Murray was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the third round, 51st overall, in the 1980 NHL Draft. In parts of 12 seasons (1981-91, 1992-94) playing for the Blackhawks, he ranks 14th on the team's all-time assists list (291), 15th all-time in points (488), 18th all-time in goals (197) and 19th all-time in games played (688).

A five-time twenty goal scorer and veteran of 15 NHL seasons, Murray appeared in 915 career NHL games scoring 230 goals and 354 assists for 584 points and 875 penalty minutes while playing for the Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Avalanche. He also appeared in 113 playoff games recording 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points and 145 penalty minutes. Troy was a member of Colorado's 1995-1996 Stanley Cup Championship team.
