David Lavine’s Winning Chili Recipe

Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef
1 pound of stew meat - cut into small pieces
4 cans diced tomatoes - use the juice
2 cans kidney beans - drained
2 cans pinto beans - drained
3-4 hot peppers (Serrano or Jalepenos)
1 large green pepper - diced
1 large onion - diced
3 celery pieces - diced
4 pieces garlic - diced fine
4 squares bakery’s chocolate or equivalent
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1-2 tbls Worchester Sauce
1-2 tsp curry powder
1-2 tbls Chili powder - a little more heat if desired - start with 2-3, add more if desired)

Instructions

Salt (to taste) and brown ground beef
Brown stew meat in left over fat rendered from the ground beef
Set Aside

Simmer 2 cans tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and celery
Add beef back when vegetables begin to soften
Add spices & garlic
Add beans
Add remaining tomatoes

Simmer covered for another hour - stir occasionally. Add some water if it gets too dry.
Adjust spices as desired.
Serve with cheese, oyster crackers, sour cream as desired.

NOTE: This recipe is to be used as guideline, it can be altered to taste.

Cornbread

Ingredients

2 boxes cornbread mix.
1 can corn - drained.
1 small green pepper - finely diced
2 tsp chili powder

Instructions

Bake according to package directions
