Chicago's Green Family Festival is coming up next weekend (April 17 & 18) and is a fun, affordable outing for the entire family! It will be held at the Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox, Chicago).
There will be: - crafts, activities, exercise, animals, and sing-alongs for kids; - workshops on health and well-being, food, green building, green pets, and organic gardening for kids and grown-ups; - timely, thought provoking sessions about pesticides; international perspectives on environmentalism; and spirituality/religion and the environment.
Especially timely is the Asian Carp Update, a session including representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers, the EPA, and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District - and a Chef's Cook-Off demonstrating asian carp recipes!
Lou himself will be there to discuss Green Building Trends. Other notable presenters include (Former) PBS Host Miss Lori and the CAMPUS Kids in a special join in singing and dancing celebration, the Chicago Tribune's Food and Wine critic Bill Daley discussing Organic Wine and Cedar Dog and Kathy Deitsch discussing pets and the environment.
Admission is $5 per family, or a canned good donation to the Green Family Festival / Catholic Charities food drive. Working Bikes.org will also be on hand. If you donate an unused bicycle to their great cause (they refurbish the bikes and ship them to poor areas, currently Haiti), you will also receive free admission. There's plenty of free parking at the Center and a bike parking lot will also be available. The Center is located 3 blocks off of the Kennedy Expressway and 2 blocks from the Edens.
