THE AGE OF THE UNTHINKABLE
Things are changing at an incredible rate and not much in our world is predictable anymore---two years ago, who would have guessed we would have an African-American President, or that we would currently be experiencing on of the worst economies since the Great Depression? So how do we prepare for the unexpected? Joshua Cooper Ramo thinks he knows how and he’s just written a book telling us how. In The Age of the Unthinkable: Why the New World Disorder Constantly Surprises Us and What We Can Do About It , Ramo examines how we got where we are today and what we can do to prepare for unexpected events in our world. PARKING METERS, POTHOLES, AND POLITICAL PATRONAGE…OH, MY!
Are you upset over the recent parking meter debacle? Well, you’re certainly not alone. There has been an outcry from Chicagoans over the deal, and even the company who has taken over the meters has acknowledged the mishandling. We will be joined tonight by three Chicago political observers to discuss the situation, along with some of the other recent scandals to engulf the city.
FRIDAY, APRIL 10TH
SHAKEDOWN
You may remember our discussion last year over the Canadian Human Right’s Commission and its investigation of Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant. Our guests tonight will be those very two guests. Levant has just written a new book detailing his experience with the commission and has also investigated some of the other bizarre and extraordinary cases that have found their way to the commission. In Shakedown , Levant discusses cases such as a McDonald’s worker who won the right to not have to wash her hands at work, and another case where a transvestite fought for and won the right to council female rape victims, against the pleas of the rape victims. We’ll discuss these cases and more with Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant, both who will be on for the full 2-hour program.
MONDAY, APRIL 13TH
JESUS, INTERRUPTED
The Bible is a sacred book followed by millions of people across the world and believed by most to be an infallible document. But is it really? Our guest tonight says that the Bible is riddled with inconsistencies and, in some cases, outright forgeries. In his book Jesus, Interrupted , Bart Ehrman explains that many of the fundamental pieces and stories in the Bible never happened and never existed—they were inventions made by people hundreds of years later in an attempt to tie the inconsistencies in the Bible together. Among other things Ehrman claims is that only 8 of the 27 books of the New Testament were actually written by the authors they claim to be—the rest are forgeries.
