TUESDAY 31ST JULY
WEDNESDAY 1ST AUGUST

Extension 720 takes a seat on the bench for two nights as the Cubs travel west to take on the San Diego Padres in 9:05pm games.

THURSDAY 2ND AUGUST
THE INTERNET

Although e-commerce may have taken a few body blows on Wall Street, the impact of the internet on the economy and society only continues to grow. Tonight, we examine the internet and its future, and how it has touched upon (if sometimes in subtle ways) nearly all aspects of modern life. Our guest will be MICHAEL LEWIS, whose previous best sellers included "Liar's Poker". His new book is NEXT: THE FUTURE JUST HAPPENED. ELLIS BOOKER, editor of BtoB: The Magazine for Marketing and E-Commerce Strategists, joins in the conversation.

FRIDAY 3RD AUGUST
The Cubs west-coast road trip continues as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 9:10pm game, leaving Extension 720 with the night off.

MONDAY 6TH AUGUST
THE ANNALS OF COMMUNISM

When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, scholars were finally able to access Soviet archives that had remained closely guarded secrets for more than seven decades. Though much still remains to be discovered, recent research has confirmed, among other things, the guilt of Alger Hiss and Julius Rosenberg, the domination of the American Communist Party by the Soviet government, and Stalin's involvement in the North Korean invasion of South Korea in 1950. In the United States, the scholarship has culminated in Yale University Press's "Annals of Communism" series. Tonight, we are joined by RONALD RADOSH, a co-editor of its latest volume, SPAIN BETRAYED: THE SOVIET UNION IN THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR, as well as the general editor of the series, JONATHAN BRENT.

TUESDAY 7TH AUGUST
Recently recorded interviews will follow the 7:05pm baseball game between the Cubs and the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Our recent guests include Hall of Fame quarterback TERRY BRADSHAW on his life in football, EUGENE KENNEDY on the Catholic Church, GORDON CHANG on the coming collapse of China, JOHN WALSH on crime in America, ERNA PARIS on history and memory, Rabbi DAVID ROSEN on interreligious dialogue, and much more. Tune in tonight after the ballgame.

WEDNESDAY 8TH AUGUST
THE NATION OF ISLAM IN AMERICA

VIBERT L. WHITE, Jr.', a former member of, and minister in, the Nation of Islam, is our guest tonight. His new book INSIDE THE NATION OF ISLAM: A HISTORICAL AND PERSONAL TESTIMONY OF A BLACK MUSLIM examines the evolution of the Nation of Islam since the mid-1970s and offers his observations on its leadership and internal workings. Tonight, we look at the past and future of the Nation of Islam and of racial politics in America.

THURSDAY 9TH AUGUST
RACIAL PROFILING

Is racial profiling an outrageous policy of official prejudice practiced by America's law enforcement agencies? Or has a myth been created to cover more unpleasant criminal statistics that, regardless of the larger socioeconomic issues that may be involved, have nothing to do with police targeting? Perhaps the answer, as in most case, lies somewhere in between. We examine all sides of the controversial issue of racial profiling tonight with social commentator HEATHER MacDONALD and TOM JURKANIN, executive director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

FRIDAY 10TH AUGUST
THE SECOND CITY

John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis, George Wendt, Mike Myers, Gilda Radner. An impressive list of comic celebrities, all with one thing in common: each began the long road to stardom at Chicago's famous comedy revue, The Second City. Tonight, we are joined by BERNARD SAHLINS, one of Second City's founders, a longtime producer and director, and, most recently, author of DAYS AND NIGHTS AT THE SECOND CITY. We start on December 1, 1959, the date that The Second City opened its doors, and look at the evolving history of the club, listening to some of its most hilarious sketches as we go along.

MONDAY-WEDNESDAY 13TH-15TH AUGUST
Taped interviews will follow each of the 7:05pm Cubs ballgames against the Houston Astros.

THURSDAY 16TH AUGUST
MIND READING

Attention skeptics! Come one, come all! ROSS JOHNSON, psychic entertainer, will shatter your doubts this evening through a superhuman display of mind reading, clairvoyance, telepathy, and fortune telling. Ross Johnson has stunned audiences for years and is recognized as one of the most gifted psychic performers of our time. Tune in to see him work his magic on Milt, and our listeners, tonight.

FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST
Extension 720 takes a final seat on the bench for this season as the Cubs travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a 9:05pm game.

MONDAY 20TH AUGUST
Taped interviews will follow the Cubs-Milwaukee Brewers doubleheader which begins at 4:05pm.

TUESDAY 21ST AUGUST
ZOO STORIES
Three curators from the Lincoln Park Zoo visit to discuss their lives and research at the zoo. Join us at 9:00pm for another edition of "Zoo Stories", with green alligators and long-necked geese, humpty-backed camels and chimpanzees, and much, much more.

WEDNESDAY 22ND AUGUST
THE RISE AND FALL OF ROME
Tonight on Extension 720, all roads lead to Rome. We attempt to delve deeper than the Hollywoodized history of gladiators and chariot races to examine the meaning and significance of Rome as an entity. Its impact on political theory, economic development, military thought and practice, and cultural growth cannot be measured. However, we will make our own modest attempt with a panel including ROBERT WALLACE, chair of the Classics Department at Northwestern University, and GREG ANDERSON, professor of History at UIC. Unlike Nero, our guests, we trust, wouldn't have fiddled while Rome burned.

THURSDAY 23RD AUGUST
ELECTION 2000

Though it seemed as if it might never end, the disorder of election 2000 is (one hopes) over for good. Since Al Gore conceded the election in December, legal process has given way to political and historical analysis in the form of countless books, articles, television panels, and, of course, radio programs. Certainly one of the most important examinations has now emerged from RICHARD POSNER, chief judge of the 7th Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and Senior Lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School. In his new book, BREAKING THE DEADLOCK: THE 2000 ELECTION, THE CONSTITUTION, AND THE COURTS, Judge Posner analyses the disputed election from a legal perspective, looking at the courts, the lawyers, the endless string of constitutional "experts", and the implications for the American electoral process. He also makes his case for what reforms are needed, and how to implement them, if such electoral trainwrecks are to be avoided in the future.

FRIDAY 24TH AUGUST
THE USE AND ABUSE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
It's time again for another edition of the most egregious uses of our native tongue (even if we're not in the British Isles). Our traditional panelists SUSAN HARRIS, ELLEN HUNT, and CRAIG SIRLES detail recent fallacies and absurdities, and offer observations, explanations, and cures.

MONDAY 27TH AUGUST
POLITICS IN REVIEW

All who follow politics know that MORTON KONDRACKE of Roll Call magazine and numerous television programs (including Fox News Channel's The Beltway Boys) is one of the most knowledgeable, articulate, and objective commentators of American policymaking and policymakers. Tonight, Mort visits Extension 720 for a look at recent developments on the American political scene. Joining him will be MIKE McGUIRE of The Chicago Tribune and BEN PAGE, professor of Political Science at Northwestern University.

We will also be taping an interview with Mort on his new book SAVING MILLY: LOVE, POLITICS, AND PARKINSON'S DISEASE, a moving look at his wife's struggle with a devastating disease and its impact on their lives. This interview will air in the near future.

TUESDAY 28TH AUGUST WEDNESDAY 29TH AUGUST
Recently recorded interviews will follow two 7:05pm baseball games between the Cubs and the Florida Marlins.

THURSDAY 30TH AUGUST
LIFE IN THE NFL
Another gridiron campaign is upon us. To kick off the season, several former professional football players join us this evening for a look at life in the NFL. From the glories on the field to the constant aches and pains off it, from fame and fortune to youthful retirement, we'll examine the public and private lives that compose a player's career. Among our four guests will be WGN's own former Bears TOM WADDLE and GLEN KOZLOWSKI.

FRIDAY 31ST AUGUST
The Cubs take on the Atlanta Braves beginning at 6:35pm. Check back to wgnradio.com for details of Extension 720 following the game.
