The Nick D. Crew Page

Welcome to the The Nick Digilio Show Crew Page...
...a little behind-the-scenes look into what we like to call The Nick D. Braintrust.

Andy Hermann
(aka "The Count")

Howdy all! Andy Hermann here... Nick's longest running producer. Should I be bragging about that?! Yeah... I think so. During my time working on various Nick D. shows... I've seen our fan base grow, the show's gotten better and better, and I've been a part of something in which we're all very proud!

After some random weekend daytime fill-ins with Nick D., I started consistently working with him late in 2001 on the old Saturday night version of The Nick D. & Garry Lee Show. Not long after that show's switch to Fridays, I also picked up the solo Nick show on Saturdays. So as of this writing I've given up somewhere around 5 years of weekend life.

It's all been great, though. My day job is flexible (when I have one), so that fits right into this odd weekend schedule I keep here. My duties include -- but are not limited to -- booking guests, keeping up the webpages, archiving online audio, and doing Nick's bidding. Aside from Nick's show at WGN, I also produce the 720 TO GO podcasts.

After graduating from Ohio University (not Ohio State) in 1997, I moved up to Chicago with no job and no prospects. I had done a bunch of stuff at WOUB-AM/FM in Athens during school, but hit a radio dry spell until WGN let me in to intern with Spike in fall of 2000. Once my internship was over, I just kept coming around until they started paying me. Chicago rules, and I'm honored to be part of the legendary 720 WGN team.

So anyway, I got "The Count" nickname totally legitimately. I had a couple small parts in the locally-produced The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas, and one night -- during an episode called "The Trade-Ins" -- Nick nearly fell off his chair laughing when I was introduced as "The Count", who was dealing a shady card game. My fate was sealed.

COUNT TRUE FACTS:
- My favorite color is dark blue.
- Swimming is fun and biking is transportation.
Running makes no sense.
- At the time, I was more excited to meet
Mike Stephen in the Evenin' than Nick Digilio.
- When there's a VoiceMALE Saga dry spell,
that means Broham and I have been hanging out.
- Three's Company is the best show ever.
- "Same as it ever was ... same as it ever was."

Mike Stephen
(aka "Broham")

I’m Mike Stephen (aka Broham -- more on that later) and I started producing Nick’s Sunday night show in 2002. Let me say this (and I admit I am quite biased): Nick’s show RULES! It’s been so great contributing on and off the air, and it's been even better seeing the Nick D. weekend experience grow in popularity (and we have the numbers to prove it!).

Before I arrived at WGN, I grew up in Elmwood Park, just outside of Chicago (home of Johnnie’s Beef). I went to Loyola University Chicago and while earning my degree, I found the time to work at WLUW-FM (88.7) where I hosted the popular Stephen In the Evenin’ Show three days a week.* In May of 2001, I interned on Spike’s show after doing a brief stint on Kevin Matthews’ morning show on WXCD-FM (Remember the days of CD 94.7? Classic Rock! Yeaaaahhh!!!). Well, one thing led to another and here I am an official employee of the Mighty 720.

So, what exactly were my Sunday Nick D. show duties? I booked guests, screened calls, produced audio, contributed on-air, and trimmed Nick’s beard. Now I'm working on production elements for Nick's show, as well as a bunch of stuff behind the scenes and on the air. In addition to all these tasks, I'm also the WGN Hometown Voices Tour producer.

Now, about that name “Broham”. The short story is that Nick went to grade school with a big bully who called everyone “broham”. Years later, they ran into one another on the Ravenswood el. The bully was standing on the platform yelling, “Open the door, Broham!” Nick saw the bully and the bully saw Nick. They hugged on the el. I’m serious.

I’m no bully, but since the Sunday night show is the evening “zoo”, I was in need of a nickname and was jealous of The Count's. Hence, I was bestowed the title of Broham.

BROHAM TRUE FACTS:
- My favorite color is blue.
- I’m a two-time triathlete.
- I play harmonica in a band called Detagoh.
- I really did purchase pre-packaged sandwiches
at the Walgreens before the show.
- The Count and Broham VoiceMALE Saga IS real…
(I know, I can’t explain it either.)
- Star Wars rules.

*The Count was a fan before we even met!

The VoiceMALE Saga (and more!)...

Mike and Andy used to battle about which edition of The Nick D. Experience was best, but they learned to set aside their differences and work together for the good of the show.
