It's been eight movies and $6.3 billion in Box Office receipts, but starting today, the franchise comes to a close with "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2."
You've heard me talk about how some films are all effects and no story and how some have great stories but are nothing special to look at. Today, we have the rare film whose story is rich, wonderful and whose film making is nothing short of spectacular.
"Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is not only the perfect conclusion to this franchise but, I think it's the best film of 2011, so far - a master class in storytelling and film making.
Following J.K. Rowling's final book, we are taken into the ultimate showdown between Harry, Hermione, Ron, the Hogwarts school itself and the evil lord Voldemort a two-hour plus battle filled a scavenger hunt to destroy pieces of Voldemort's soul.
Intelligence, imagination and complete excitement abound with great performances from the entire cast but especially by Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, one of the greatest on screen villains of all time.
Like their fans and characters, these young actors have grown from cute kids to young adults who take their time to deliver just the right emotion, but emotion was the cherry on top of the Harry Potter cake.
As the movie went on, you can't help but feel the transition, almost like sending a child off to college and a new phase of life after 10 years together. I'm highly recommending "Deathly Hallows 2". See it on as big a screen if you can - the 3D adds dimension, not the usual annoying distraction. I loved it!
