(WGN-AM) - Defense attorney Samuel E. Adam formally announced Tuesday that he intends to represent former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and be seated at the defense table if his corruption case goes to trial.
Sheldon Sorosky, a long-time Blagojevich friend, had been the ousted governor's only lawyer at court appearances in recent weeks.
U.S. District Judge James B. Zagel has ordered the former governor to announce who his lawyers are by a June 1 hearing.
Adam gained the spotlight at the trial of R&B singer R. Kelly. He delivered the thundering, whispering, fist-pounding closing argument at Kelly's child pornography trial.
The R&B singer was acquitted of all charges.
Adam is the son of Sam Adam - a wisecracking veteran of decades in Chicago's criminal courts.
